Hainanese Chicken Rice is a beloved dish all across Singapore – although in Hainan itself, it isn’t as well-celebrated – and few places can be as proud of their example of the dish as Five Star Hainanese Chicken Rice in River Valley. They began serving the dish back in 1988, and their poultry is notable for its tenderness and freshness, as well as the diversity of ways in which it is served. The chicken rice is obviously the highlight, but there is also chicken feet, innards and chops, which are accompanied by sweet and sour pork, seafood specialities such as sambal prawns and curried fish heads and even vegetarian favourites like cabbage in oyster sauce and stir-fried broccoli with garlic. When you come to River Valley Road and Five Star Hainanese Rice, you can feast on Chinese and local Singapore specialities to your heart’s content, so book a table now and make a move to Orchard MRT station for a properly decent feed.
The usual home-style cooking kind of lunch, best enjoyed in a group. Some servings are small so we had to double up but still managed to finish everything!
We had overseas guests here for a 2 day meeting. So of course the default place to go is Five Star Hainanese Kampung Chicken Rice Restuarant
Welcome lunch for a bunch of interns from Europe. Good place to introduce local food to foreigners. Favourites include prawn roll and salted egg prawns
Spacious. The chicken rice is ok only. Chilli sauce is good. Does not accept AMEX card. Difficult to access as it is next to main road.
