Tucked away on Jiak Chuan Road, Esquina is a tapas bar with tonnes of style. Chinatown is a hotspot for culinary culture in Singapore, and this restaurant is one of the area's hippest hangouts. Headed by esteemed chef Carlos Montobbio, the cuisine on offer here is Spanish with a pronounced international influence, from obviously Andalusian delicacies such as Iberico bellota with pan con tomate to fusion masterpieces like the Spanish twist on Japanese nigiri with bacalao brandade and roasted bell peppers. Inspired by the colourful tapas bars of Spain, Esquina provides its own trendy take with its menu of small plates and other Spanish-inspired dishes. Try some of the grilled Spanish octopus with Jerusalem artichoke, burnt onion and oyster leaf, the pigeon served with forest berries escabeche, burnt rosemary polenta and crispy shallots or the saffron paella with pan-fried red snapper, chorizo and snow peas.
