Inspired by the very first Chinese-American Hollywood star, Anna May Wong, the eponymous ‘cafe’ atop the famous Tantric Bar along Neil Road is in fact a continuation of Tantric’s hallowed reputation as one of the best and most exciting cocktail bars in Singapore. The atmosphere is a little quieter, with more spots to chill on sofas, lighter music and a general sense of demure Oriental reserve spiking the mix. Tanjong Pagar is awash with bars, but if the proprietors’ claim that ‘your taste buds will soar to orgasmic overdrives’ tickles your fancy, then book some barroom at May Wong’s Cafe now.

Here the vibe is toned down a little from the weekend party scene in evidence downstairs, with relaxation rather than rowdiness in mind. Settle into a sofa with an intimate and sip supreme cocktails, imported beer and fine wine.
May Wong’s Cafe is not exactly a cafe – more a cocktail bar – but you can still grab some finger food to accompany your drinks. May Wong’s (and Tantric) are open every day of the week, from 8pm to 3am Sunday to Friday and 8pm to 4am Saturdays and the eve of public holidays making it a pretty crazy spot in Tanjong Pagar and Singapore in general. Don’t forget that May Wong Cafe does a great martini night where you can get two for a great price.
