French food in Singapore is not too hard to find, if one puts one’s mind to it, but the iconic pastries of l’Hexagone are perhaps the hardest aspect of the cuisine to get right. Few are accepted to the top pastry schools of Paris, and fewer still graduate, but one such star pastry chef is Chara Lum, a Singapore native and the founder of Ciel Patisserie on Jalan Bukit Merah. She didn’t just graduate, mind: she graduated from Le Cordon Bleu Paris at just 20 years old, and now she applies the techniques learnt in the home of great baking at her own bakery in Singapore, where they churn out tarts, cakes, quiches and more to an ever expanding clientele. From madeleines to scones, choux to brownies and full size gateaux, there is something for everyone with a sweet tooth at Ciel Patisserie, so book a table now and make a beeline for Bukit Merah, just along from Outram Park MTR. You won’t go home disappointed.
I don't know why I haven't found out about this place until now, but omg it's wonderful! The sweets were at a really affordable price and the entire place is so quaint and gorgeous. I know I'll be frequenting a lot :)
