Life before the restaurants on Club Street

Although Club Street may be known for its high concentration of restaurants and bars, its reputation for nightlife isn’t the reason behind how it got its name – contrary to popular belief. In the late 19th century, way before trendy restaurants descended on Club Street, the street itself was home to several Chinese clubs where Chinese businessmen used to meet for leisure, and it was believed to have been named after the prominent Chinese Weekly Entertainment Kee Lam Club. Today, barely any traces of Club Street’s past remain, but take a closer look and you might still see some of these clubs standing shoulder to shoulder with the bistros, wine bars and cafes that line the street. As the sun sets on Club Street every Friday and Saturday evening, the street is closed to traffic to make way for a pedestrian-friendly al fresco dining and bar-hopping experience which goes on till late. Don’t miss out on the buzz of Club Street’s restaurants and bars by reserving ahead for you and your crew with Quandoo.

Club Street’s restaurants cater to all tastes and preferences

Take a stroll around the area and you’ll spot familiar names like Indochine and Da Paolo, yet there’s far more than these restaurant heavyweights on Club Street for your taste buds to explore. One true gem is Senso Ristorante & Bar, an upscale Italian restaurant on Club Street which has been winning gourmands over with its authentic interpretation of classic favourites dished out with impeccable service worthy of the accolades it has earned to its name. For an exquisite yet casual dining experience with a dose of Japanese pop culture on the side, check out Izy Dining and Bar, a modern izakaya that will whet your appetite with its broad selection of sushi, sashimi, sakes, and – if you can find it – a hidden bar with more Japanese liquors to keep you well-lubricated into the night. Last but not least, there’s Jerry’s Barbeque & Grill, a stalwart among Club Street restaurants since 1994 for its much raved-about all-American ribs and wings.

More than just restaurants on Club Street for a complete evening out

In search of a watering hole? You’ve come to the right place. Whether you prefer somewhere with a more bustling or low-key vibe, Club Street has them all. For quality wines at affordable prices, you can’t go wrong with The Pass Wine Bar & Bistro. Right next door, Bar Naked ups the ante with regular unplugged music nights and incredible happy hour beer promos, but if a cosy hangout complete with a pool table, dart board, arcade-style video games and live sports screenings are what you’re after, you need to step into The Lions’ Den. There’s never a dull moment on Club Street, and it all begins with Quandoo.
