‘Dining in a Chinese Garden’ is how Shang Palace describes its setting and on first glance, it definitely lives up to its palatial aspirations. Decked out in hues of red – which symbolises happiness and good fortune in Chinese culture – this haute restaurant at the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore in the downtown district of Orchard is highly regarded for its authentic Cantonese fare with hints of influence drawn from Shanghainese and Sichuan cuisines. The Michelin-starred trailblazer in Chinese cuisine, Mok Kit Keung, has just joined the team and he will helm the culinary operations of Shang Palace, overseeing an experienced group of Chinese chefs and all of the hotel’s Chinese food production.
Start off with a round of cold appetisers at Shang Palace, before moving onto barbecued delicacies like Peking duck or whole roasted suckling pig. Then give your health a boost with the eight-hour boiled superior chicken soup, before finally tucking into an array of seafood and meat specialities including deep-fried spare ribs, baked cod fish with miso sauce, and braised baby abalone. For balance, we highly recommend vegetarian and vegetable-based delights such as the stir-fried kai lan, or the sautéed bean curd with bean sprouts and salted black bean. Last but not least, the Shang Palace three treasure treats makes for a regal end to a feast fit for a king – and you’ll certainly feel like one after dining at this crème de la crème of Chinese restaurants in Singapore. Located on Orange Grove Road in Orchard, a stone’s throw away from the main shopping belt, reservations at Shang Palace are a must.
Excellent food as always, top class service, food is a bit pricey though. It was quite quiet for it was a Monday evening when we went, love it.
Food, atmosphere and service was amazinging! It was also good for kids as they kindly arrannged a private room even during the busiest time. Price was also super resonable for this quality.
The restaurant was crowded and although the service was slow at some points, the staff were always smiling and helpful. The dim sum was pricey but of high quality. We spent about $100 for two pax.
Shang Palace always the best. love you!~~ We will always come back here. Good quality dim sum, good service, help warm up my baby's milk!
This is a medium-sized restaurant that's beautifully decorated, although a bit dimly lit. The food is very good, but expect high prices, which is understandable for a place like this. The dim sum lunch menu has a good variety and quality is good, with fresh ingredients. Service, as with most restaurants in Singapore now, is less than ideal. The government's strict restrictions on foreign labour and the lack of Singaporeans who want to work in restaurants mean that dining establishments are desperate for workers and have to employ staff they normally would not hire. The Shangri-la tries to train them but service tends to be perfunctory and brusque, but efficient.
The waitress who served us was on her first day at the job. It was terrible and we had to ask for a change of server/waitress. Thereafter, normalcy resumed, and we enjoyed the Shang Palace food as always.
Nice ambience. Service was perfect. Gave us a small cake for bday celebration. However the Peking duck standard dropped abit. The skin to wrap the peking duck is abit too thick. Can be improved. Cos cant taste the Peking skin.
The dim sum was good and the service was attentive. They have replaced their barbecue pork pastry but I prefer the previous version. There is a good selection of dim sum although they could have more steamed varieties.
Wonderful Birthday Celebration with my loved ones. Good food, great ambience and excellent service plus a complimentary birthday cake which made it more special:) Will visit again :)
Beautiful setting & Ambience in Restaurant! Service staff is very good. Presentation of food is superb and innovative. Highly recommended if you want to impress!
