Qi Wei Ji Bao’s specialty is Chinese claypot chicken, in all the wondrous forms this Singapore favourite can come in. The house signature at this Joo Chiat restaurant is the Qi Wei chicken claypot, either small or large with an optional two drumsticks and designed to be shared among up to four people. Then there’s the herbal chicken claypot soup which legend has it has curative properties, the Qi Wei spicy soup with duck and beer for a hot and heady dish, and the Qi Wei frogs’ legs claypot soup for a French Indo-Chinese delight. Located on Joo Chiat Road close to the intersection of Dunman Road, Qi Wei Ji Bao regularly fills up fast despite its long opening hours, so an advance reservation is strongly recommended if you want to avoid disappointment.
I had always patroned the Kovan outlet as it was closer to my home. But when a family member came down from Malaysia, this location seemed like a more convenient and central location for us to meet. We were not disappointed with the food - always yummy. The restaurant was not crowded but it did seem that they were a bit short-handed with one server and one chef in the kitchen. Will definitely be back again!
The pots themselves are pretty decent, but would be good if the additional dishes that can be ordered be modularized into different sizes for differing table servings (eg have sizes for 1 or 2 pax worth, instead of a one size fits all which is quite huge). The price of these additional dishes are quite expensive too.
service was good. food was good as well, but price was a bit on the high side. overall an enjoyable experience. will go back again if there's ongoing promotion
