La Cala

La Cala Singapore is a Spanish and Mediterranean restaurant in the heart of Bugis, one that we really can’t get enough of. It’s a contemporary space on Fraser Street that’s casual and great for lunch or dinner. The menu is as authentically Spanish as it gets and features tapas, paella, fresh fish and seafood, premium meat and a few options fresh from the charcoal oven to boot. There’s so much to recommend, but we really love the pigeon paella or the Catalan-style slow-cooked lamb rack. La Cala Singapore is right by Bugis MRT so it’s easy to get to no matter where you’re coming from, just be sure to arrive armed with an advance reservation.

The best thing about La Cala Singapore, being a Spanish restaurant and all, is it’s great whether you’re in need of a huge and hearty meal or just a little nibble with a glass of wine and friends. If the latter applies and perhaps there’s a group of you out celebrating, order up a table full of tapa and spread them out to share. The surf & turf is a delight and consists of stewed meatballs and baby calamari, while the cannelloni with beef, pork and truffle cream warms the heart. Should you feel like luxury, the duck foie gras terrine or the deep sea Mediterranean prawns should not be missed.

The food is so good at La Cala Singapore that there’s every chance you won’t want to share yours with anyone else, however. If this is the case, try the crispy suckling pig that’s boneless and served with melon, or the Atlantic cod with black olive, hazelnut and black garlic. As you can probably tell, dishes at La Cala Singapore bring bold flavour in abundance which, when paired with a glass of quality of wine, are pretty hard to match anywhere else in Bugis.
