Keong Saik Road’s newest yakitori and sake joint brings delicious charcoal-grilled meat skewers from its open kitchen to your table, alongside an extensive menu of sharing plates, fillers and, of course, rice wine. Different from most crowded and smoky yakitori joints, the vibe here is relaxed, allowing plenty of opportunity for good food and fine conversation in the city centre of Singapore. Book ahead now to avoid disappointment!

Thinking about making a Birders booking?

The same guys who brought us The Great Escape bar at Golden Mile Tower are back with Birders, a yakitori and sake restaurant located on Keong Saik Road in Tanjong Pagar. Situated in the heart of Singapore’s CBD, Birders takes over the former premises of Japanese-French tapas joint The Wagon, with the latter’s former head chef Makoto Deguchi in charge of designing the impressive menu of charcoal-grilled meat skewers, sharing plates and fillers here.

Atypical of most yakitori spots in Japan, this one does away with the usual crowded and smoky atmosphere for a more relaxed and polished setting. Watch the staff in the open kitchen work their magic on those luscious skewers of meat, which mostly centre around various parts of a chicken as well as pork and beef options. Although Birders brands itself as a yakitori restaurant, you should also save room in your belly to order some plates of curry croquetas, liver mousse and potato salad to share. Last but not least, have a few rounds of Birders’ other speciality – cup sake – whose complex flavour profiles are helpfully illustrated in the drinks menu to guide you through the different aspects of Japanese rice wine. Come on down to the newest hotspot in Singapore’s central district of Tanjong Pagar for an evening of tasty bites, smooth liquor and hearty conversations. But before you do that, you’ll want to make a reservation.
