Platypus Cantina - Bugis

Nice ambience with an interesting fusion of sorts menu. Nice food. If only the service staff were a litlle more attentive and not so cold. This was not my first visit.

This was my second time here. Three of us ordered the vegetarian course – two of the mains were really great (the spinach linguine and mushroom risotto), but the other one (truffle mushroom linguine) took more than twenty minutes to arrive after the first two had been served, and when it finally arrived after we asked for it, it was the wrong dish. We had to send it back, and received another dish that was basically dry and tasteless pasta with a few courtesy mushrooms. After sending it back again, the final dish we received was closer to the description on the menu, but definitely not as tasty as the two other mains. I think they were short staffed at the time – it took a while to get their attention and the wrong starter dishes and desserts were brought to us a couple of times. My first experience here faced the same service problems, but the food was very tasty so I decided to come back. I'm a little disappointed with the service because apart from that one dish, everything else was still good!

Service was splendid. A wide selection of dishes. Food was amazing. Pricing was reasonable. Atmosphere was inviting. A great place to meet up with friends.

The restaurant had a rather large crowd on Sat evening. It was a long 40-min wait for the food. We reached at 830pm and got our starters around 9.15pm. We had the 3-course dinner menu. The starters of lobster bisque and ikura and crab bowl were great! The desserts of poundcake garden and molten matcha were indulgent :) The main courses of aburi beef bowl and pork tomohawk were slightly dry and tough. Overall I would recommend this place for the food but not the waiting time :)

Great food at mid-tier prices! Every time someone asks me for a restaurant recommendation in Bugis, I always point them here.

Food was good. Service was great. Ambience was a little noisy. However there was no respond from the restaurant regarding my personal request as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary that night.

Had order the weekday dinner set menu. My friend and I enjoyed the dinner very much. Nice bowl of quinoa to start off, and the tomato pasta was cooked to Al dente. Finished off with panocotta that was rich and just the right amount of sweetness. The truffles fries were good too. We order a plate and didn't expect to be such a big serving that could serve 3 - 4pax. Chunky fries infused with truffle atop with a few slices of black truffle. I could really taste the truffle. Good job! Service staff were courteous too. Didn't have to wait for long to served up the appetisers. I am happy to say that it will not be the last visit. Thank you guys, and will see you soon again!

Pretty looking but Ordinary food. Very slow service. Lobster bisque and Beef chili fries - both starters - were the stand out dishes for us.

The staff were very patient with us and had attended to our needs timely. However, they were a little shorthanded last evening. Hope they can have more floor staff in the evening

Had a good New Year lunch with my pals at the restaurant! It was a big group of us and they have two rows of tables and chairs for us! Nice staffs there and the food was good too! I enjoyed the Uni Pasta... Highly recommended and I’ll be back again, to try their other food!

Great value for money. The portions served are massive for their price. Food quality is above average, but the service can be slightly inattentive at times.

Had their holiday 3 course meal which is worth of the price. Although is short of waitress but they are able to attend to us nicely.

Food is average and price is at higher range. Not recommend if you are looking for quite and cosy enviroment. Ok for meet up in a group.

Gathering with 5 friends here, ordered festive set menu~ Lobster soup, Holiday bird, chocolate lava. All were well presented, appetizing & suits the festive theme. Enjoyed the exceptional service we recieved . Ambience is cozy , was crowded during dinner time.They also have a private area for a larger group reservation. Happy hour until 8pm.

Food was excellent , pricing for the quality was reasonable and service staff was attentive . Highly recommend to anyone looking for quality western in the Bugis district

My experience there is good. The food taste really good. The location of the place is convent as well, just 5 minutes walk from the MRT.

Food was awesome. Ambience was nice, dimly lit and romantic. Staff was friendly and attentive and surprised my hubby with a birthday song. I am impressed and will definitely be back!

It’s always a delight coming to this place. The food is delicious and the staff are attentive! I will never get enough of the this.

Food is quite good, though a few hit and misses. These would rate a 4 or 5. But service was very slow, both times I have been there even though waiter did say it's a 30min wait. But looks like they don't have enough serving staff. Had to wait for water and to pay the bill. This made it a 3.

Nice ambience and food. Early birds even entitled to 15% discount which was worth it. Great for dining with family and friends..will come again in the future!

Lovely place with a great ambiance and pleasant staff. Would definitely visit again! Highly recommended! Their mac and cheese is a must try for everyone!

The dessert chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream was a let-down. It wasnt even warm. We had to wait up to 10 mins for the bill though. That said, the rest, including service was good.

We came in a big group, there was good food, the service crew was prompt and helpful, although it seemed like the restaurant slightly busy and under staffed.

Staff are friendly and helpful during my dinner especially when we have a toddler with us. The chicken is tender and the dessert is delicious.

The food was delicious but the place was so full with people and the noise level was through the roof. We can hardly hear ourselves think. It was also pretty hard to get the attention of any of the waiters due to the crowd. It’s a good place to go when it’s not that crowded.

The place was crowded as it was the weekend. We had 21 people and the service crew was patient. Overall it was a good dining experience.

Restaurant was unable to cope with the lunch crowd when we were there. Food was hence served late, and orders were forgotten, such that even a simple coffee took ages to arrive despite repeated prompts to the staff on duty. We were also late for our next appointment as a result. Though said, the food was delicious, and to be fair it seemed like one of the staff was new and still learning. Will return, but perhaps at a less busy hour.

Noisy environment with large groups of people. Food was catered mostly to beef and seafood lovers/eaters, so quite limited to people who don’t fancy both. Ordered the carbonara and beef lasagne thingy and didn’t taste too bad.

We really liked the food at Platypus, but on Monday when we dined there, the service could have been better. Attentiveness was not on the plate despite the fact that there were only about 6 tables of diners. We felt that the wait staff were polite, but didn't seem to be a coordinated or cohesive team...we ordered 6 fixed sets and a full roasted chicken, the server served us 5 mains and assumed that the roasted chicken was one of ordered set...we ordered 3 sets of moscato, 4 came dry and 2 were sweet - the darker hue was a good clue - not that we mind at all, but it would be nice if the server inform us of this. All in all the service was lackluster, yet when it came to surprising the birthday boy with a Happy Birthday son, the servers sang with so much cheer and gusto, we were more amused than peeved at the service quality. Platypus serve delicious, well prepared food. I wish this can be paired with an equally stellar service.

Set lunch was Good value for money. We took the soup of the day which was a tomato soup. It had the right tinge of tanginess and we were also pleasantly surprised with the melted cheese in the soup! The pasta we had were cooked just al dente. The lasagne was a pleasant surprise. Will definitely be back!

Good dining experience in a quiet environment. Good selection of European dishes and beers (availability of Asian beers would be a plus point). Friendly staff!

We went there for a birthday celebration, thinking it would be a nice and cosy place. There were 2 other large groups that were having their team dinner there so it was rather crowded and loud. We waited for approximately an hour before our mains were served. However, the food was not up to our expectations. Firstly, the two pastas that we ordered were dry and hard, especially the Crab and Ikura. In addition, the 'Chophouse' Ribeye we ordered was supposed to be Med-Rare, but was served dry and hard, almost well done. However, the staff redid the steak for us after we had feedback the situation to them.

Service was extremely poor. We were put in the back portion of the restaurant and no one attended to us. We waited an hour to order and then another hour for the food. Food was pretty average as well for prices charged. Highly disappointing.

The new menu was just amazing! Bomb presentation, great taste and price wise Super reasonable !!! Highly recommend this place to everyone for a fun night out

Food menu is focused more on seafood and beef, both in which limits the customer segment. What really bothers me is the noise level of the place— understandable that it’s crowded with people but I wasn’t able to hold a conversation without straining my voice (unlike other stores which are jam packed with people but wasn’t as noisy)
