Sichuan cuisine is known, even among the notably open-minded and wide-palated Chinese, as the home to some fanciful ingredients and strong flavours. Yi Qi Lao Si Chuan on Middle Road in Dhoby Ghaut is the place to try them all all, as they bring the authentic taste of Chengdu and Sichuan Province to the streets of Singapore. That means plentiful use of the iconic native peppercorn – with all the tongue and lip numbing qualities of that – with liberal lashings of chillies to boot, with are brought to bear on unusual ingredients such as snake head sliced fish and fried frog, wok-braised pig intestine and chicken feet with chilli. Take a trip out to Dhoby Ghaut, Bugis or Rochor on the MTR to experience the huge range of Chinese, and specifically Sichuan, specialities on offer at Yi Qi Lao Si Chuan on Middle Road – just remember to book yourself a table in advance.

Excellent food. All locals. Try the Spicy Green Beans as an appetizer. The decor is early turn of the century ~1800's (read - not nice) but you are here for the food. The service was polite and attentive.
