Just when we think we’ve sampled all that the Thai restaurants in Singapore have to offer, Som Tam presents its contemporary take on the cuisine by marrying traditional flavours with modern preferences, making every visit here a surprise for your taste buds. Salads in a jar, rice burgers and tom yum pastas are only a handful of the delicacies you can expect to find at this Orchard gem, so bring your appetite and curiosity down to Som Tam and prepare to be surprised. The restaurant is conveniently located on Orchard Road and we highly recommend that you book ahead to avoid disappointment.
There’s more to Som Tam than the popular spicy and sour green papaya salad dish it is named after. Tucked away on the eighth storey of the towering Orchard Central on Orchard Road, this modern Thai restaurant presents our favourite dishes from the Land of Smiles served with a twist – showcasing the rich flavours of the cuisine while proving at the same time how it’s still light years away from falling out of favour with Singaporean diners.
Start off your visit to Som Tam with popular street delights like Thai chicken satay and the deep-fried squid with spicy mayo, guaranteed to whet your appetite for more to come. To add some crunch to your bite, you’ll want to order the restaurant’s signature dish which gave it its name; just don’t be surprised when it shows up in a jar! For serious tummy fillers, we highly recommend getting the king crab pasta or the pan-seared salmon rice burger to experience a new take on Thai fare unlike any other. You won’t regret saving some room for dessert once you’ve had a look at the options, which include not-your-ordinary gelato flavours like green curry, sticky rice, and Thai basil with chocolate chip, as well as whimsical creations such as the popsicle velvet mango cake. Conveniently located on Singapore’s Orchard Road shopping belt, Som Tam makes an excellent refuelling stop in between your retail therapy sessions. The food here is very good, usually not crowded. Would be better if the dishes were slightly cheapest but I guess it's the location and rent.
overall recomended. we love the olive fried rice and seafood garlic fried rice. the tomyam crayfish soup is delicious, just the crayfish is a bit small.
Second time visiting the restaurant. Restaurant was very crowded, great food but the wait was very long for certain dishes. Overall still a great experience.
They ran out of toast by lunch time. Order green curry pasta. The sauce was nice but the ingredients tasted like they were only tossed in at the end because they were pretty much tasteless.
