Bringing together a head chef from Tochigi prefecture in Japan’s Kantō region who has made a two decade-long journey from apprentice to master of the Japanese culinary arts and a sake sommelier versed in some of the island nation’s more rare and esoteric rice wines, Nobiro Japanese Restaurant & Sake Bar is a fine addition to Singapore’s restaurant scene. Located at the Faber Hills complex along Clementi’s Faber Drive, Nobiro is distinctly traditional inside and out. Chef Kikuchi Shoyo San’s creations are served in a space designed to nurture a memorable dining experience, with the Kurobuta stewed claypot pork set, air-freighted sashimi and omakase sushi platters, and even a few Asian fusion dishes being just some of the many options available from the menu. I brought a German friend who is here for vacation for a nice meal at Nobiro. We had Sakana Marine for appetiser, and Unagi, Yasai Udon, Wagyu Beef, and Yakitori for our main dishes. Everything tasted wonderful and my German friend was very impressed with the high quality of food!
I'm glad to have discovered this hidden gem! The izakaya's menu offers a wide range of options, and the dishes I tried were all excellent. I especially enjoyed the yakitori omakase, and the unagi - all grilled to perfection. Goma ice cream from Japan was also a favourite. Service team is small, but very friendly and helpful. The hostess made my young kids feel right at home. With the adults, she made good recommendations for sake, and how the sake we ordered should be enjoyed, and even took the trouble to serve both the chilled and warm versions for us to try! We will be back here soon, for sure.
I tried the Cheese Hamburg this time and as usual, was very satisfied with my dinner. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Nobiro!
