Hail up, Singapore, you’re a city of firsts, and now you’re a city with a Caribbean restaurant. But Lime House, down Jiak Chuan Road in the district of Outram Park, is more than just a jerk chicken shack. Jerk chicken they got, but there be bags of other stuff too. Wah gwaan? Well, four storeys of fun await the rude bwoys an’ gyals of Singapore – Lime House is a restaurant, club, lounge bar, and private social club all rolled up into one fat and fragrant venue. Stacked up like a swag of frackles in a gorgeous Singaporean heritage building, Lime House runs the road down Jiak Chuan. More emphatically, Lime House’s four Outram Park storeys hab di Jamrock ting lack. That is, this Caribbean restaurant, bar and social club has the Jamaican vibe well and truly under their thumbs and under control. The first floor is where the chillin’ and dinin’ gets started, seating up to 60 in a spacious room that preserves the original shop’s tiled floor. The menu is bursting with specialities of Caribbean cuisine – baby back ribs glazed with a Trinidadian BBQ sauce, the famous Jamaican jerk chicken (Lime House’s most popular dish, this uses the famous Scotch bonnet chilli pepper!), and curried goat dishes. Wash it down with a deconstructed pina colada or another lang and rum-heavy Caribbean concoction and the mood is set for going higher in the Lime House.
Before you head heavenwards, let it be known that besides a forest of boutique rums from all over the Caribbean and Latin America, the house rum here is Mount Gay from Barbados, the world’s first rum company. And a word to the wise: the mixologists here are collaborating with Global Rum Ambassador and RUM JAM host Ian Burrell on a new Jerk Daiquiri, using the same infernal Scotch bonnet chillies that light a fire under the restaurant’s signature jerk chicken. Heat up! The second floor of Lime House’s Outram Park premises down Jiak Chuan road is all about finding a little bass to wind up your waist. Drinks aplenty, plus a good food selection, but most importantly this is where Lime House’s resident selectahs and sound boys mash up the club on selected nights. Selected indeed, you can also join in a quiz night or a live music Jamdown jam. Floor number 3 is ideal for after-work drinks and private hire amongst friends and colleagues, while we gotta say Lime House’s highest level is the true Zion – an open-air, breezy, easy rooftop lounge reserved for members of Lime House’s private social club.
