Sushi Kaishin (O)

A small, unassuming eatery tucked away just off the riverside on Robertson Quay, Sushi Karishi packs a bigger punch than you might expect at first sight. The small operation must mean that every process and technique receives careful attention, because this River Valley Japanese joint can certainly carry its own around bigger, flashier sushi places in Singapore. Slippery fresh seafood is treated delicately and served to hungry diners through a range of great sushi and sashimi options, enhanced from its wild state only by a skillful squeeze of lime or suzu to bring out its natural flavours. Sushi Kaishi is cosy and casual, and it doesn’t have the vast range of Japanese specialties or theatrical teppanyaki counters of bigger places, but what it does well – sushi and sashimi – it does as well as anybody.
