Nice and boutique restaurant serving home cooked Japanese food. Always my favourite for something light and soupy, not so heavy stuff. Highly recommended. Reservation is recommended as the restaurant is not so big.

Simple yet tasty japanese fare at a reasonably decent price point - what’s there not to like? Will definitely be back again in the future.

The food is excellent! Good quality, great taste! Glad that we didn't have to queue since reservation has been made :) Service was prompt. Nice cozy ambience; not too noisy. Great for families and small group gatherings. My friends an I enjoyed ourselves thoroughly over the food and company. Will definitely be back!

Had lunch on a Sunday. Food was good and reasonably priced. Making a reservation didn’t help as they didn’t really have tables for that size of a group. Service was mixed. There was a waitress who was sullen throughout but another Filipina and a make Chef who served us were extremely pleasant. Loved the basil chicken and salad.

Service was prompt and waitress was friendly. However the quality of the food was so so and hence it was a bit disappointing. Not sure if it is worth the visit

Authentic home cooked Japanese food. Ordered cod fish stew which was wholesome & delicious! You get to switch to mixed grain rice without having to top up cost. Always enjoyed dining @ Ootoya!

While the place was relatively small and cozy, the floor looks pitiful. Their furnishings are suitable for groups of 6 and above, if you're a smaller party, there's always the counter with tatami mat seating style. I arrived around noon and had to wait to be seated as they seem short-handed. Overall service was slow for a weekday lunch peak. I had a Chicken Katsu Jyu Set. The Chawamushi arrived shortly after my order was placed. It was on the flavorful side - not to my liking. The rest arrived a little too slow. Looking around, there were other patrons who had checked on their order a couple of times while I was there. The food arrived and the portion was great. The amount and quality of rice served was good. The chicken was very well done, still juicy with a layer of fat encased. The amount of sauce was disappointing - nothing like the illustration. It was runny and wasn't enough. The miso was of good standard. I would have given them a 4 or 5 if not for this occurrence. I was seated near the kitchen so food coming out would pass me by. While I was eating and savoring my meal, a server suddenly came from behind me to opened my cutlery drawer for a spoon and chopsticks. This was done without any apologies or notification. What mae it worse was that there were other empty booths nearby! It was rude shock given the reputation and establishment of the restaurant and its Japanese roots. I hope that staff will be better trained and educated in this service.

Poor service. No one attending at the front, also had to wave so many times to get waitress attention to order food, staff were unclear on the promotions, no smiles, no greetings. Food was good, but I wouldn't go back. I've been to the outlet at CCP, so much better. This one at Clementi made us feel very unwelcomed and disappointing service.

Food is fresh and delicious. Place looks authentic and it is not noisy like some other chain eateries where you can't even converse without raising your voice. Staff needs more training in serving though. Overall experience is good and will visit again.

The soba, being handmade and fresh, was really the signature dish. The grilled sword fish was not bad, but a bit fishy. So I think soba is the best

It was our first visit and we were pleasantly surprised by the ambience and food. Attentive staff who were quick to top up our green tea, cleared plates and serve were also a plus point. We will return soon!

Making a reservation and appearing early at 11.30am sure beats the crowds! The staff are efficient and pleasant. And the food, really good. I ordered a small bowl Chirashi and it was filling. The fish was ample and fresh. The others at my table ordered a double of small Oyakadon and Udon, the soup was clear and tasty while the noodle was cooked just right, not mushy but al dente. The dessert was Fantastic, bits of cake, mocha, green tea ice cream, red beans. Worth dropping by.

My two friends and I enjoyed our lunch at Ootoya. The staff are friendly and service was good. Only snag is that they ran out of fresh flatfish and we had the frozen ones which when grilled was oily.
