No surprises here – this nondescript Chinese joint tucked into a sleepy stretch of Chinatown’s back streets is a place to enjoy duck, duck and some more duck. Jing Cheng Roast Duck, on Smith Street not far from both Chinatown and Telok Ayer MRT stations, offers more variations of duck at cheaper prices than just about anywhere you’ll find in Singapore. The best part? It’s delicious. From lesser known traditional preparations to authentic Chinese classics, new interpretations and contemporary creations, Jing Cheng Roast Duck serve it up any which way you can imagine: shredded duck in soy sauce, wasabi duck flippers, salt and pepper duck bones and even a Chinese duck hamburger. Jing Cheng Roast Duck is a testament to the mantra that if you stick to one thing, you must be very, very good at it, and it must be very, very fresh, basically arriving and leaving the restaurant on Chinatown’s Smith Street on the same day. Book a spot, because it can get crammed.
