It’s not very often that we come across a Mexican restaurant in Singapore that delivers more than the usual staples of tacos and burritos, which makes going to El Mero Mero something worth looking forward to. El Mero Mero, or “the boss of the boss” in Mexican jargon, certainly lives up to its name with its bold, proud and forward-thinking approach, evident in a menu that presents the best of the best in specialities from every region in Mexico.
From its beautiful courtyard in Chijmes on Victoria Street, just minutes away from City Hall MRT station, pore over the variety of botanas, or appetisers, as you rev yourself up for the mains to follow. Whether you decide on an enticing street corn sampler or a bluefin tuna tostada, it’ll set you up nicely for the signature El Mero Mero ceviche or a hefty arrachera fajitas which features 250g of Black Angus flank steak, peppers and burnt onion cream. Save some room for desserts, for El Mero Mero’s tequila pecan pie will blow you away, as much as its intoxicating selection of handcrafted cocktails and spirits will. Embrace the full flavours of Mexico at this City Hall hotspot in the heart of Singapore. To avoid disappointment, we highly recommend that you book ahead at this one.
One of our favorite dining spots in Singapore. Great food, atmosphere and service. We highly recommend the unique tacos (fish, shrimp and tenderloin are terrific)!
Our first time there, went with the recommendations from the staff. Tried the wild fish tacos and the octopus tacos, as well as the fajitas, great food!
Food was excellent... e.g. Suckling Pig, Braised Pineapple, Fish Taco... these dishes really stood out! Service was great, as the host made effort to accommodate a last minute booking for our party of 7 on a busy Friday evening.
My friends and I took the outdoor seating and we loved the ambience. Tacos are good. Waiting time for food and drink takes a little longer than average.
Whilst the food was good and the environment very nice (sitting outside in the Chijmes courtyard), the service was absolutely terrible. We waited about 55 mins for anything to arrive, and then the staff forgot entirely about our starters. We were presented with our main courses and then told that the starter would come later (we said "forget it"; didn't want the starter as a dessert!). Good location and ambience, tasty food, expensive, terrible and unattentive service.
They took a long time to serve the order; and then got one of the two items wrong! The food itself was a 4. They tried to make up fir it by not charging for the wrong dish.
The staff were not friendly. Whenever we requested anything, they had a straight or frowned face. Food was average, not worth the price. Will not again
