When you’re looking to pick an authentic Chinese restaurant in Singapore, it’s not much use judging a book by its cover – some of the least handsome hovels in the city are in fact jewels in the crown when it comes to food, and sometimes the restaurants with the most unassuming name are in fact the most comprehensive representatives of their respective culinary theme. Take Balestier’s Chinese Cuisine Restaurant, for instance. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what they serve, and once you’ve tasted house specialties like Mao’s Special Stew Pork or the Spicy Big Plate Chicken, the Spicy Incense Pot (don’t get caught at customs with this on your breath!) or the Legend Tofu, it’s would be idiotic not to return to this Balestier Road Chinese restaurant in Novena time and again!
Good authentic Chinese Sichuan cuisine with great variety that go very well with their tsingtao beer. Comfy place and good for gathering with friends. Will return.
While I found no fault with the staff, the food was hopeless and overpriced. Small portions and the food had no taste at all. I suspect it is overpriced due to the location.
