Oct 2017. Glad they got my quandoo reservation without any issues and that our table was ready for us when my party of 3 got there. It's my 2nd time to the restaurant and service was prompt like the 1st time. Our hot teas and food orders were served up very quickly and didn't really have to ask for tea refills. Only didn't really like the fact that one of the staff (female) was clearing away my plate and chopsticks even though I was still in the midst of finishing up the few edamame pods we had left. I was ok with her clearing the empty dishes that we had finished with and my friends' plates as they had finished eating. Our food orders were delicious as we had the sashimi, ika geso karaage, saba shioyaki and edamame again - items that we had and knew were good on my 1st visit there in Sep 2017. This time, we also had the deep fried soft shell crab (big pieces with a tangy dipping sauce), unagi salmon mentai maki (tasty but not a "must eat" item IMO), and we liked their swordfish sashimi so much that we ordered an additional serving after we finished the 1st serving of sashimi. Our tummies were full and happily satisfied after the meal. Definitely value for money for the quality of food here and will definitely be back anytime we need our Japanese food fix.

Nice and good experience. The food is good enough and will definitely try to find time to go back again. The ambience of the place is very quiet and not too busy and staff service is quick and good.

Food quality is good. Portion is also big especially the beef udon soup that was ordered, udon is chewy and of good quality. The only thing is that I overordered the food Intitally and ask the waiter to hold my order till I finished the food on the table first. However, I feel it’s better if they can ask if we would like to proceed with the rest of the orders after the food was finsihed. Before I can even inform them to cancel the remaining 2 rice orders, it’s was automatically served. Therefore I have to stuff my food all the way into my stomach.

The food and the way the place was run felt more like a Taiwanese-style Japanese restaurant. Not what I would call an authentic Japanese meal. Service wise, they were a tad bit slow, and the place could do with some improvements in cleanliness.

Quaint place amidst busy town for affordable and nice Japanese food. Beef don was a bit too expensive with the portion but the wagyu beef was really good.

Visited in Jan 2018 - dinner for 3 persons. The items which we usually order were tasty as usual except for the ika geso karaage which came out a bit different from what we were used to. After asking the staff, we were informed that that dish was handmade in house that day (it was tasty but not as crispy) and what we usually had which was those from a packet was out of stock. Well, at least now we know to ask when ordering this item. We also had the cod fish hotpot which was full of ingredients (lots of veggies). A very filling and satisfying meal.

The place was dingy and the sashimi wasn't the freshest. It was quiet on a Saturday evening. The redeeming quality is the service provided at Barashi Tei

Food was really good, only qualm was that service was a little unfriendly when the waiter misheard our order and sent it to our table. Besides that, all was good and value for money, would definitely recommend!

I think most reviewers have it wrong - the most value for money chirashi don is found here at Barashi Tei. Really hidden gem, with lots of options on the menu.

Food is okay, good for late night Japanese cravings as they open till late. Parking can be tricky as limited places to park, however, wilkie edge is opposite so can walk across.

Rather good service! Atmosphere was quite soothing and not noisy at all, not very crowded when I was there around 8pm on a Friday night. Had the bara chirashi don which was quite good, the sashimi was quite fresh and did not taste/smell fishy. Would have been even better if slightly more rice was given. Miso soup was provided as well as chuka kuraage chinmi to go with the rice. Overall a very nice experience and I would go back again.

We visited on a Wedneaday evening at about 7.30pm, and it was suprisingly rather quiet. Restaurant interior looks old and tired, but the good was great. We had the barashi don and shared a grilled skewers platter. The barashi tasted really fresh and the platter is a good sharing dish for 2-3 pax.

Brought 2 friends who were first time dining at Barashi Tei. They are all praise for the fresh and thick slices of sashimi and the delicious food. We also ordered the spicy salmon maki, unagi don, goose liver, assorted yakitori and grilled prawns. Will definitely go back for the food.

Service was impeccable. Our green tea got replaced promptly once we finished it. In addition, the food delicious and you can tell that the ingredients used was really fresh. The chef was really attentive and told us to feel free to ask for seconds for the rice dish.
