Singapore’s food scene is as strong as anywhere in Asia, with superb options on offer whether your tastes are for Chinese classics, Japanese joints, Korean barbecue places, Indian curry houses, Thai temples or pretty much anything else. What can be lacking is the desserts, and that is where The Royals Cafe in Siglap come in. They offer cakes of the chocolate, cream, cheese and birthday varieties, as well as eclairs, pastries, macarons, swiss rolls and just about anything you can think of with sugar and doughs. You can pick up some nyonya classics to give the impression of healthy food, but really you’re just getting wound up to the star of the show, the sweets. Wander down Upper East Coast Road into Siglap – or take the MTR to Kembangan or Bedok – and roll up to The Royals Cafe for a sugar-themed treat. Just remember to book a table, as they do get crowded on occasion.
