More about The Royal Oak Staveley, Boroughbridge

The great British country pub is one of the joys of the travelling through the UK, and up in Yorkshire they do them better than almost anywhere else. Out on the wiley, windy moors, they offer up a relief from the spectacular but often unforgiving scenery, but like a certain famous family, you don’t want to be told that there’s no room at the inn: so book your table in advance at The Royal Oak on Main Street in Staveley near Knaresborough.

The history of religion would be very different if the Holy Family had reserved ahead. Still, maybe Bethlehem doesn’t have the booking facilities that they have at The Royal Oak in Staveley, and frankly, it’s unlikely that they had the range of food – posh options like ale-braised duck leg, confit belly bacon for the kings, British pub classics like fish and chips, gammon, egg and chips and bangers and mash for the shepherds – and drinks – real ale from Knaresborough, Harrogate, Yorkshire and beyond. Main Street in Staveley is the place to be for a feed of biblical proportions.

Thanks you for a great meal last night. My steak was cooked to perfection and the service was excellent. Have been many times and the quality is always consistent.

Lovely country village pub serving delicious food, Sunday lunch roast beef, Yorkshire pudding crispy roast potatoes, Yorkshire caviar, with scrumy chocolate truffle and a large blob of caramel ice cream for dessert 😋

We had always heard good reviews so decided to try it on a beautiful summer evening. Staff very welcoming and polite, pub was very quite but pleasant atmosphere. Ordered pickled trout with beetroot relish and fennel for starter, attractive to look at but the trout was bland in taste, only the accompaniments made it interesting. I had fish and chips and my husband had the Ripon black bacon chop for the main course, delicious, and vegetables cooked to perfection. Only downside was that we were plagued throughout the meal by flies which was extremely off putting. Overall good experience, would recommend people to try for themselves.

We ate at the Royal Oak for the first time last night, the staff were really friendly and made us feel very welcome. The choice of food was really good and the starters arrived quickly. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, we will certainly be returning soon and i can recommend this pub for a really nice meal with a good ambiance.

Brilliant Pub, food excellent and service first class. Walked in to warm and cosy bar area with an open fire and ushered into a nicely decorated rear bar with more tables. Unfortunately this part of the bar area had no heating on in it but luckily we had extra layers in the car to put on which saved the day. We will certainly be back, a great find.

A thoroughly enjoyable meal , but when I checked the bill when I got home ( husband payed ) I had been charged for 3 courses and 2 courses , instead of 4 x 2 courses , we had a prawn cocktail and a pate for starters and 2 crumbles for dessert otherwise everything else was perfect Thanks Hazel

Rating based on previous visits. Unfortunately this time round we were sat next to very loud family group that spoiled our lunch somewhat. The food on the whole is great but on this occasion my Beef was quite fatty and very difficult to cut. I ended up leaving about a third of mine. My Lemon Posset dessert was to die for though! Everything else is lovely - attentive staff, nice surroundings, beautiful village.
