If you’re out and about in the Lancashire moorlands, head southeast from Blackburn to the village of Belthorn – the highest altitude hamlet in the region – and you’ll be surprised what culinary intrigue can be found among the weavers’ cottages. Up on Elton Road on the corner with Kendal Row sits The Pack Restaurant & Bar, one of this community’s small number of eateries but one that stands out for its predominantly Italian offering and sensitively revamped premises. A family-run affair, The Pack offers an approachable and affordable selection of specials, mid-week early bird deals, themed nights, and a beautifully presented a la carte menu.
Open from 5:30 to 9pm Tuesday through to Thursday, and from noon until late over the weekend, The Pack Restaurant & Bar is frequently abuzz with Belthorn locals and foodies down from Blackburn for a slap-up Italian dinner in cosy surrounds. Get in early and choose two or three courses for a great price thanks to this Italian restaurant’s early bird offer, or simply reserve a spot to indulge in Italian classics from the ample a la carte menu. Proprietors Karl and Jo-Ann, alongside experienced head chef Mark, gave the former Pack Horse restaurant a makeover in 2011 and, since then, this local landmark restaurant up on Elton Road has flourished, nurturing relationships with a tight and trusted network of suppliers to keep their kitchen stocked with the best ingredients.
Watch out for The Pack Restaurant & Bar’s monthly tapas nights, and be sure to enquire about the ridiculously low prices if you’re bringing the kids down to Belthorn for an introduction to Italian gastronomy. Regardless, you can expect this rural Lancashire hotspot just a short jaunt southeast of Blackburn to offer you the best of Italian cuisine, with a little pan-Mediterranean flair thrown in for good measure (and a couple of familiar British bits and pieces, too). The Pack sharer is a good place to start, laden with continental meats, seafood, olives, fresh bread and rocket and parmesan salad as a taste of things to come. You’ll also find typical Spanish tapas dishes like patatas bravas on the nibbles list, but perhaps the best measure of the talent in the kitchen are the authentic Italian options like the pasta and risotto dishes and stonebaked pizzas. Carnivores can get their steak fix with 21-day aged cuts sourced from local suppliers, while you can head a little further east to Greece for lamb kleftiko and further still for a classic European beef stroganoff. Whichever direction you choose to head, make The Pack your destination but be sure to book ahead.
The meal was lovely. Very reasonable price wise. We had the early bird set menu and it was delicious. Staff are always very pleasant and the restaurant itself is very comfortable - smart but relaxed

Great atmosphere, with friendly yet professional staff who were most accommodating to our every need. Love the refurb that has been done. Great food, well cooked with fabulous flavours & good presentation. We had a really lovely evening - than you guys!
This was the first time I had visited "The Pack" We selected the early Bird menu, I'm glad we did. Starter :- The spring rolls where well presented, cooked to perfection and full of taste. Main Course :- Sirloin (+£4) onto of the early bird price, however it was worth even penny. The blue cheese sauce was a must for me and when combined with the side dish of grilled peppers and boiled mini spuds made for a filling and enjoyable main course. Desert :- Profiteroles, "Heaven" Service :- I would say it was very good. The restaurant was only half full, We didn't have to wait long for any of our three courses and the empty plates were removed promptly, the waitress was professional and friendly.
On entering I found the hallway a little characterless, however the restaurant itself lovely, warm and welcoming. I found the staff abit like headless chickens, busy but not always getting anywhere! The restaurant was quiet, but staff struggling with all tasks. We were shown to our table quite quickly, but there was a unnecessary delay in taking our drinks order! The menu and specials are excellent, varied, and I guess the majority of diners will find something they would like. The website didn't state when the Set Menu, which shows good value, is available, we found we were in the incorrect time window, but found plenty of alternatives. The food was okay, but was cold within seconds of arriving, as all served on cold plates and dishes. I think warm crockery could increase enjoyment immensely. I will rate the pizza highly with a tasty base and sufficient topping. This venue has all the ingredients to become something special with better trained staff, warm plates and a little more personal care/attention to customers. But at reasonable prices worth a visit.
The restaurant has been done up really nicely, unfortunately we were seated next to a very large party who were very loud and our table was situated very closely to them, there were other empty tables so I would have preferred to have been seated elsewhere. I ordered the rump of lamb, medium and expected a nice chunky piece of lamb in a nice sauce. Unfortunately the lamb was sliced, overcooked and looked like a school dinner. I had to add salt as there wasn't much flavour. When I asked for mint sauce to add a bit of flavour the waitress didn't know what I was asking for and it never turned up, everything else was ok but not spectacular. The waiter did not ask how everything was when he took the plates away. There is a good choice of cocktails at a very good price for two and a good selection of beers and gins. I would go back again to give it a second chance and maybe stick to just pasta.
My table was booked for 5.00pm I called in at 3.30pm to see if the staff could amend the time as my wife was called into work ( nurse on call ) but as it was Mother's Day they were fully booked, but the manager went Above and beyond my expectation to accomate my family he reserved a table at the bar area which was fine, we have made reservation at this restaurant for Many years and this is my childrens favourite restaurant the food is always at a high standard and please put the spaggetti back on the menu as my children love it, if I can make a comment we did sit at the table with our coats on, we asked a member of staff to put the heating on but that made no difference, please put the log on the fire or at least put the heating on as this would have made our experience much better. Our first impressions at kerbside was good. Well decorated and lit and through the window we could see the restaurant was busy. There were plenty of staff working, so service was generally good. Oddly the more senior the staff member appeared, the more surly / less engaging they were. The restaurant is nice but missing something of the Italian feel. It's modern but plain so maybe a little stark? That said they have just had a refurb and with Xmas parties due I don't blame them for not yet having more pictures / decoration. Food was all presented well and tasty. And regular drinks orders were taken. Our party enjoyed pasta and steak dishes. We ate well but very little alcohol, coming in at about £30ph We will go back when using as a half way to meet friends.
What we had was superb and what we saw others having, looked good. Flavours were spot on. My minestrone was jam packed with at least 9 different veg. We will definitely go back and recommend it. However, there was one negative, even though we had booked, we had to wait about 20 mins before our table was ready, and as we had already booked a table that was 30 mins later than we really wanted, because of time slots available, it ended up very late for me to eat.
