Sushi Jin: An Omakase Masterclass in Minimalist Perfection In the world of culinary arts, few experiences are as revered and intimidating as an omakase dinner. Translating to "I leave it up to you," it is the ultimate act of trust, placing your palate entirely in the hands of the chef. My recent evening at Sushi Jin was not just a meal; it was a profound lesson in the power of this trust, a breathtaking journey that showcased sushi not as a mere dish, but as a form of edible art. Tucked away from the main bustle, Sushi Jin is an oasis of calm. The interior is a study in Japanese minimalism: warm, blonde wood, soft, indirect lighting, and a serene, hushed atmosphere that immediately lowers your heart rate. The focal point is the immaculate hinoki wood counter, behind which Chef Jin and his small team move with a quiet, focused grace. There are no distractions here—the design deliberately funnels all your attention toward the performance about to unfold on your plate. The omakase began with a series of delicate appetizers, or otsumami, that set the tone. A translucent slice of octopus, tenderized to perfection, was followed by a chawanmushi so ethereal it seemed to dissolve on the tongue, revealing a hidden treasure of uni at its base. Each piece was a whisper of the ocean, a subtle prelude to the symphony of the sushi to come. Then, the main event. One by one, Chef Jin placed the nigiri before us. This was where the magic truly happened. The rice, seasoned with a red vinegar that lent a subtle, complex sharpness, was warm and cohesive, melting away the moment it met the mouth. The fish was, without exception, sublime. A glistening piece of akami (lean bluefin tuna) was a deep, mineral-rich revelation. The otoro (fatty tuna) was not just fatty, but buttery, an decadent slice that required no effort to chew. A seared kobashira (baby scallop) with a dot of yuzu kosho delivered a thrilling punch of citrus and heat that awakened every sense. The pinnacle was the uni, presented in a delicate gunkan-maki style. Sourced from Hokkaido, it was a creamy, sweet, and briny explosion—a taste of the cold, clean northern seas that was almost emotional in its intensity. What elevated the experience from exceptional to transcendent was Chef Jin himself. His explanations were concise yet passionate, his movements a ballet of precision. He was not just a cook, but a curator and a storyteller, narrating the origins of each fish through his craft. Sushi Jin is not an inexpensive evening, but it is a invaluable one. It is a restaurant that reminds you that true luxury lies not in opulence, but in perfection achieved through focus, respect for ingredients, and unparalleled skill. This was more than dinner; it was a culinary meditation, and I am already counting down the days until I can return.
Good sushi restaurant for lunch. Reasonable price & food was good.

extremely fresh sashimi. Good wagyu bowls. Booking was easy. Will go back again
Great lunch place. The Omakase is definitely worth trying especially since there are always unusual but delicious combinations to tempt your palette.
Great Place and vibe environment to dine in for dinner.

Good food, reasonable set lunch prices. Family friendly too! Will return
Excellent food, nice ambience, although the air con was a bit hot.
for the price, you get much better quality of food than any other Japanese restaurant in the same category in Singapore
Came for a weekday lunch and I loved the wagyu beef bowl! Service was attentive and top-notch too!
The food was great and my whole family likes it... great dining experience
Good quality fresh fish. Nice chawanmushi. Overall a good value for money place.
The Omakase Meal is great, their service is attentive with only regret is unable to get their counter seats.
Food was excellent save for the tempura. That was just a tad not as good bec I could taste the oil.
Food is pretty fresh and presentable. But when the staff do explanation for the dish of Omakase, they speak like nobody can understand, too fast and soft. Hope this can be improve when my next visit.
We had a great dinner at Sushi Jin. All the food served were top quality, atmosphere was tranquil, service was top notched! Will highly recommend people who loves Japanese food and doesn’t mind splurging a little for higher quality food!
It was a one of a kind experience. Very warm service from all the staff/chefs. The food was great, it was more than we've expected. Highly recommended!
Love the wagyu don. best in Sg. Foie gras opyional
Service and atmosphere was great. The food is also super fresh and delicious. Heard the foie gras steak is super valued for money as well! Will come back again definitely! But a bit on the ex side though.
Always a pleasant experience at sushi jin. We went for sushi omakase and let chef Desmond decide what we had for dinner. Each piece is like an art and taste heavenly. Definitely a place to go back again and again
Good food, a bit pricey. This is contemporary / fusion sushi style. fish is very flavourful. i tried the omakase set dinner. will try lunch sometime.
Nice food and very good service , specially like the premium waguyu don, it it really tasty. Will bring my family to go eat again.
Probably one of the best Japanese food I ever ate before! Kudos to Desmond for his professionalism and patience in explaining different types of sashimi to us! Definitely will revisit sushi jin next time! ;)
A good experience, great fresh sushi and attentive service. It’s a regular dinner hangout on a Monday, just something casual after working hours. 2 of us weren’t being very decisive, so the waitress recommended and those dishes were good! And they understood the after work crowd, nobody really bothered us except to top up our green tea. Enough other reviews and ravings of the food, I really do enjoy the quiet and quaint ambience in this restaurant.
Good lunch menu at affordable pricing. The sashimi came in thick and fresh slices and was delightfully surprised when it was lightly flavoured in yuzu. The dessert was well executed too.
First omakase, was great! We had a great, enjoyable experience!
The location would be abit difficult to find but not too bad for the overall experience. Hopefully the portions can be bigger for the price paid.
Great service. Fresh food. Friendly staff. Had the omakase set and will be coming back for more. Price is affordable and not very crowded at lunch time
Very good food. I think this is the best Japanese food you can get in Singapore. Price is a bit steep but worth every dollar.
the food was really excellent, super fresh sushi and sashimi. The omakase was just nice for me. Also the staff are attentive to a good degree. The ambience is cosy. I will definitely be returning.
Strongly recommended , I like the environment and Omakase dinner , Super nice dinner and we enjoyed it very much , we will visit again
food is good as always. wagyu beef with truffle sauce and onsen egg is one of my favorite. however berf slices were fewer this round compared to our last visit.
Cozy and intimate experience. The omakase never ceases to wow me every time I go back to try it. This is a must-try for all those who love such intimate encounters.
Totally enjoyed the evening experience with their omakase menu. The lamb is a must try as it was tender, succulent and blended neatly without overboarding of the different flavors. I think truffles was in season as it was used generously in many of the items.
recommend their mixed rolls - their rolls are the perfect size for a mouth bite ( unlike some that look good, but are too big and fall apart when you try to eat it ) fair value nice cosy mature ambience
Service is very rush and some of the staff are rude. Food is ok ok only and nothing to shout about. WIll not return again
Ordered Wagyu beef don and sashimi. The prices are hugh but very worth it. Wagyu beef don is really good. Sashimi is very fresh. This is not our first visit. Will go back again.
One of my fav jap restaurant. Sashimi was fresh, food portion was just nice. Abit pricey but still worth going.
Omakase for lunch was good value for money! Its my 3rd visit to the restaurant and I always enjoyed it!
Love the Wagyu Don with foie gras and the Wagyu Don with truffle oil and onsen egg
