First opened in Singapore at the Apollo Hotel all the way back in 1972, Restaurant Hoshigaoka has grown into a chain of successful Japanese restaurants with a whole lot of history. and lucky for Toa Payoh’s Japanese cuisine fanatics, you’ll find a branch located inside SAFRA on Toa Payoh Lorong. Restaurant Hoshigaoka pays homage to age old Japanese traditions, preparing each dish using time-tested techniques, with everything from a range of different types of sushi and sashimi to donburi, agemono, teppanyaki, an array of noodle dishes and other Japanese dishes on the menu. For a family feast, a trip to Restaurant Hoshigaoka inside SAFRA is the perfect choice – just remember to book in advance in order to guarantee a table!

The food at Hoshigaoka was excellent and affordable. Unpretentious Japanese food in a pretty convenient location at SAFRA Toa Payoh. Will definitely be back again.
Made a reservation via Quandoo website for 15pax on Saturday, but when called to inform that we are delayed, they told us they receive none of such bookings which worried us since we are hosting for 15pax, but luckily the manager and staff managed to pull together 2 long tables for us. However, waiting time this visit was bit tad long for quite a few of our orders and we had to send them to check for us. They were quick on their feets to serve, maintain politeness towards us and smile although they are busy. Food was definitely delicious and worth the price! Recommend their beef sukiyaki, always returning for it. Good for family gatherings.
I visited again after seeing that beef shabu photo on Quandoo app :) Indeed, I had a pleasant hotpot meal yesterday - highly recommended! Funny thing happened: I had presented my Quandoo reservation on my phone and the restaurant staff mistook me for a big eater, because the app was showing their premium sashimi dish. They thought I was having shabu shabu plus that large size sashimi. Lol!
Restaurant is centrally located at Safra Toa Payoh Club and the food on the whole was pretty delectable and price was reasonable. However, as Safra Toa Payoh is similar to a family club, it can get noisy in the evenings when parents fetch their kids from the childcare centre located within the club and adjourn for dinner at the restaurant.
Food was great but service was poor. Made a reservation for 6 at 7.30pm but was made to wait till 7.45pm for my table to be ready. Took 1 hour for the 1st dish to be served and another 20 mins for the remaining. But they missed out 2 chawanmushi and we had to wait a till 9.30pm for the whole order to be completed. Restaurant was obviously not prepared for the crowd on Mother's Day. Give the place a skip on peak periods.
Ordered their lunch set which is good value. Food is nice and fresh and their crew is attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back again.
Waitress was attentive and she kept refilling our cups of tea. Price was reasonable. Safra card 10% off. Do try the NZ Ribeye set! Nice and quiet on weekday.
