About Red Baron
Taking cover in Singapore’s historic Gillman Barracks, a former military complex down Malan Road repurposed as an arts centre in the Labrador Park and Telok Blangah area, Red Baron offers an intimate cafe, bar, and bakery space that takes inspiration from the famed World War One flying ace of the same name. It begins (and can conceivably ends) with allday breakfasts, and continues through gourmet salads, sandwiches, and main meals that offer a delicate fusion of international flavours and favourite Singaporean ingredients. With proper baristas and pastry chefs manning the espresso machines and ovens respectively, Red Baron is also simply a good spot for a cup coffee and a slice of cake.
Red Baron’s cake chiller is always heaving with beautiful sweet treats delivered fresh from the onsite bakery, fast becoming a popular spot for coffee and cake down Malan Road. And the location is superb too, housed in a chic, modern building attached to the sprawling arts complex of the Gillman Barracks, close to Labrador Park in Telok Blangah. All of the ingredients that make their way into Red Baron’s cafe and bakery fare are sourced from halal suppliers (though they do stock a fine range of beer, cider, wine, and spirits, too). This is a great place to take time out when exploring the arts and parklands in this corner of Singapore.
A boon for vegetarians, Red Baron’s thoughtful menu is brimming with meatfree dishes. Most of the breakfast options are vegetarian, besides the signature Red Baron Breakfast, with eggs, multigrain toast, hummus, roast vegetables alongside lamb sausage. Grab yourself a Full Breakfast to taste this allday cafe’s take on Arabic cuisine, with eggs, fava beans and a Middle Eastern salad served with multigrain. Those checking out the Gillman Barracks or the Telok Blangah parks that find themselves in need of a good lunch are well looked after at this Malan Road cafe, bar, and bakery. Red Baron’s barley and kale salad’s a surefire winner, while the Singaporestyle quinoa goreng is a hearty main that showcases the kitchen’s fusion chops. Cosy, quaint and delicious food. Good place for a chill hangout with friends. Was also pleased with the service rendered to us. Can't wait to go back there again
Great food and service! The quinoa lemak portions are huge! Be prepared to come early if you want a seat indoors! Parking was a breeze too
Good quiet place to catch up over a cuppa; menu is pretty interesting & Aida is a very warm host with green fingers :-) Do check the directions before going as it can get a little confusing once you have entered gillman's barracks
Although the place is small, the food and service is tip top. My favourite is the quinoa goreng, soy cappuccino is decent and the cakes look appetizing.
Thoroughly enjoyed the quinoa which was cooked like fried rice. Staff were attentive. Ice water is self service. No GST nor service charge. Plenty of seating options (high table, indoor, outdoor, kids). Free parking during certain timings. Wished the indoor seating was bigger and opening hours extended beyond 6pm. Would they consider having a small kids corner (slides/activity area) to keep the little fingers and feet busy?
Yummy food, space is just a bit small, but otherwise excellent location, very romantic for a nice afternoon in, cannot recommend it more. The cakes are a little on the sweet side, but the other dishes are truly excellent. Quinoa Goreng is maximum yum.
The menu on their website was different from the actual one, which had fewer options; that was disappointing. On top of that when we arrived they were out of half the items on the menu. I really liked this place and had eaten quite a few times previously but after today it seems they really need to work on their service. At least the coffee was good.
We enjoyed the signature and wonderful quinoa goreng, fresh juices, and a sandwich. Love the ambience of this little place and its connection to nature. Importantly the staff are happy too.
Small place, and can get quite hot. They have limited menu too but unique yes. I tried the quinoa fried rice which was nice but awesome. My partner had their sandwich which is was ok as well.
Had a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We sat indoors but cigeratte smoke from outdoor seating made its way in and troubled my friend who was sensitive to it. The smoking area should be located further away? Cappuccino was good. The mushroom pasta was delicious!
