Ootoya might be a relatively new face in Singapore, but this is really a very venerable Japanese restaurant, with origins stretching way back to 1958. Currently there are three Ootoya branches in Singapore (the others are at Changi City Point and the Clementi mall), and this outpost is perfectly positioned at Orchard Central shopping mall, closest to Somerset MRT along Orchard Road. The ethos here is grand in scope, with Ootoya hoping to ‘promote a healthy body and mind and contribute to the development and progress of the human race through the catering industry’. They have at least certainly achieved the first goal, with expertly prepared Japanese dishes full of the delicate flavours and fresh ingredients that you’d expect. Ootoya makes its own tofu and dashi soup stocks, shaves its own bonito flakes, and marinates all its meats on-site for a fantastic taste.
Conveniently located in orchard. Excellent food with good service. D
Waitress was friendly and patient and ambience is good. Waiting time for food is reasonable and I love the grill dishes here especially the buri grill and pork belly grill.
Excellent dining experience. The ambience reminded of a home or izakaya. Food was special and sauces tasted unique and home made. Not mass produced. Service attentive.
