Wine Lust Wine Dinner

The Piemonti & Veneto wine dinner will be presented at Monti, consisting of a 4-course pairing menu featuring the restaurant’s Modern Italian cuisine paired with Cordero Di Montezemolo wines and Nino Franco.

Speaker Giovanni Oliva of Cordero di will make an exclusive appearance to host the dinner, giving diners an insight into Italian wine as well as pairing notes.

The dinner is priced at $148++ per person, and will be held on 28 August, 6.30 pm.

Took us awhile to find the right way to enter the restaurant as fullerton bay hotel was undergoing renovations at that time and it was raining quite heavily. More signages along the construction boards will better show the way to the entrance.

Lovely dinner experience at Monti. I was initially a tad disappointed as I made the dinner reservations 1 week ahead & requested for a window table since it was a birthday celebration. Perhaps I made the reservation too late still and window tables were all taken. I was given a table along the 'aisle' of the lower deck (2 to 3 tables away from the window) & nearest to the kitchen entrance. So I often have waiters walking past me which can be a little distracting at times. Only perk of that was seeing the visual representation of food we didn't order and have a closer view of fresh pasta hanging at the 'window' of the pasta room. Despite facing the kitchen entrance, I did have a look behind me and I have to say that the overall ambience/lighting in the restaurant was pretty comfortable and romantic. Chic elegance. Service was pretty good. The waiters were amiable & do check in with us periodically in case we need recommendations on the menu, or to make sure we enjoyed our food. Only wished I didn't have to ask for more bread myself (twice). We had our fill of bread by the time they finally offered us more without us requesting for it. Not all the bread were served warm, but I was rather amazed/intrigued at the tray of 4 square bottles on table. 1 for balsamic vinegar, and 3 for varying intensities/ flavour of extra virgin olive oil (fruity, medium & spicy/bitter). I could really taste the difference between fruity and spicy/bitter. The food was fantastic. For starters, we had the kale salad (refreshing & flavourful though salty) and sliced sous-vide veal (interesting combination with the tuna mayo). For our mains, we had the ravioli stuffed with braised veal (flavourful veal stuffing and you can really taste the lemon zest in the butter) and the mushroom tagliatelle (also wonderfully flavourful with the mushrooms and truffle). I was really mesmerised by the fresh handmade pasta, especially the tagliatelle which has the most springy texture I ever had in pasta. I wished we had a bigger portion so I have more to savour that flavour and pasta texture. For desserts, we had the tea-infused chocolate cigar (acquired taste but absolutely instagram-worthy. pretty filling I must say) and the baileys affogato (nothing can go wrong with this!). They even gave us a complimentary shot of limoncello each before the desserts arrived (not sure if it was due to my reservation remark on birthday celebration or to clear our palettes), as well as nutty shortbread biscuits to end off the meal. Our overall experience was pretty good. Though we deliberated and came to the conclusion that we may not have left the restaurant filling full if not for the 3 slices of bread we had and that we each had our own starter and dessert. Nonetheless, I'm definitely returning for more of that handmade pasta!

Ordered an appetizer (Smoked Swordfish Carparccio), soup of the day (mushroom soup) and 2 mains (today's special: beef and black ink angel hair pasta). We had decided not to order dessert as their offerings were quite limited. Swordfish caparccio is thinly sliced, pretty tasty. Soup was great, done in the style i like. Beef is superb, though we find it too cooked for a medium rare, the meat is very tender and soft. Pasta will be great for those who like the taste of squid ink and not too heavy. We were pleasantly surprised that the restaurant prepared a slice of cake to celebrate my fiance's birthday. I had indicated in my reservation to reserve a window seat as I'm celebrating a birthday. The cake doesnt seem to be anything from the menu and tastes really good! We decided to have a drink and stayed on for their live jazz band which were really great too! The atmosphere changed from intimate dining to a jazz bar from evening to night. Overall, its a great experience dining at Monti and prices are not as steep as I initially thought. Only downside is they seemed to be understaffed once the place is full and its so hard to get a service staff when you need them.

I was not pleased with the restaurant at all. Made an online reservation with special request to include message on dessert. Called an hour before my reservation to confirm my special request was taken note of. The staff who answered my call acknowledged my request but when the dessert came, there was no surprise message. Staff were relatively young and lack knowledge of menu. Apart from that, great ambience. Great view. Had 2 specials, food was ok. Restaurant service and staff can be improved, especially menu knowledge and clearing of table (to remove bits/crumbs or tissue) Overall, would not go back again.

Food was good but room for improvement for service level. Our water was not topped up promptly. There was many a times our cup were empty. In addition, we left our appetiser untouched for long, indicating that we no longer want it but no one took notice to clear it but left us waiting for long till we went to inform them. Instead, they could have come forward to check. Music was too loud too.

A little disappointed with the interior decorations. Service was fair. Been there twice before Monti-1 took over. Not as classy as before. Food wise is alright. Set lunch at $42++ pretty pricey. No service staff at entrance. Waited a little while before being served/ushered. Put us at the table where the kitchen was just next to it when there are nicer empty tables. I am particular about the table setting especially in a fine restaurant. There is no placemat, no flowers, no table deco. Just some variety of salt and vinegar for the bread.
