Further Information

The Japanese food at Matsuya Sushi Bar is nail-bitingly beautiful. As is the restaurant itself, in fact, to be found on Seah Street in Bugis, it’s wonderfully cosy with not more than 30 seats and is also rather stylish in terms of decor. As we said, Matsuya is famed across Singapore for its omakase sets that offer astounding value, but the chirashi don bowls are also not to be missed. The menu covers lunch as well as dinner, making Matsuya a winner for plenty of occasions.

To hit you with some details of those old chirashi don bowls, expect bite-sized cuts of raw vegetables and thick slices of raw fish served atop a fragrant bed of Japanese rice. Meanwhile, there’s also sashimi and sushi to be enjoyed, and we’re particular fans of the botan ebi, tako and ikuru varieties. Matsuya is conveniently located near Bugis MRT, so dwell here with no worries and enjoy one of Singapore’s most delightful Japanese restaurants.

Excellent omakase! Fantastic Chef Desmond . Friendly and very knowledgeable staff! High quality of fresh Seafood and Wagyu Grade A5 Beef imported from Japan. Great selection of fine sakes. The Resturant is currently small but cozy. They will be moving into bigger new space just a few doors down Seah’s St. Great value for money Business lunch. A good place for private birthday dinner with your love ones.

Friendly atmosphere, great service, and definitely one of the better sushi bars around. Do take note that they’ll be shifting to another location (which is just round the the corner from the current shop) some time in December!

The omakase was fantastic. Ingredients were fresh, well prepared certainty yummy. It was a bit noisy though but probably becos the small 16-seater sushi bar was full house on a Tuesday night. Looking forward to visit them again when they move to a bigger place which will be soon, according to the friendly chef.

A small sushi bar in a prime location. Food was nice but still has chinese essence. The tofu appetizer with thousand years old egg moose was impressive, however, the cod soup was very off with bone pieces all over the bowl. Other dishes like donburi and sashi were in general standard. Service was ok, one chinese lady who could hardly understand English. Overall experience was ok, nothing to wow.

The omakase set menu which we ordered was fairly good value for money. The fish dishes served contained reasonably fresh fish pieces. Both the chef and the waitress were friendly. We will most probably revisit to try other items on the menu
