Located in Singapore’s luxurious Palais Renaissance shopping centre along Orchard Road is a restaurant exemplary for its commitment to authentic ryori, traditional Japanese cuisine. At Ishinomaki Grill & Sake, Japanese delicacies are carefully prepared for diners robatayaki-style – skewered ingredients grilled over an open charcoal barbecue right before guests’ eyes. There’s an izakaya emphasis at Ishinomaki, too. Here diners are encouraged to sample some of Japan’s finest sake and beer while they wait for – and enjoy –

We had the lunch omakase and it was a really pleasant experience! Service was great, we enjoyed every dish from the appetizer down to the yuzu jelly dessert. Surprisingly, the highlight for us was the teriyaki chicken. The teriyaki sauce was so fragrant and not overly sweet. The skin had a crispy char and was so addictive! Fresh and thick slices salmon sashimi and last but not least the well-marinated bara chirashi don. Even my friend who was never a fan of chopped up sashimi loved it!
Indeed a hidden gem , the course set was value for money with its super quality of foods. The service is great as well.
Orchard Road is Singapore’s premier shopping district, and the Palais Renaissance
shopping centre is the jewel in the area’s crown. And no such crown would be
complete without being set with a fine Japanese dining establishment. Ishinomaki
Grill & Sake is just the jewel to finish this picture, with robatayaki- and izakaya-style
dining in artful, rustic premises making for an truly authentic Japanese culinary
experience. Diners thrill to the spectacle of Ishinomaki’s open-plan kitchen, where
expert chefs serve classics such as yakitori and onigiri or innovative combinations
like the enoki bacon maki and Iberico pork secretto fresh from the robata grill, in
plain view of the restaurant.
Ishinomaki is a definitive izakaya, too, where Singapore’s Japanese cuisine fans can indulge in that most Japanese custom of enjoying ice-cold beer – or a hot sake – while ordering up a number of small dishes from the menu. If there is a Japanese equivalent to Spanish tapas, then izakaya is it, and this Japanese restaurant in Orchard Road’s Palais Renaissance carries it off with panache. Be sure to check out Ishinomaki Grill & Sake’s omakase 7-course dinner for an incredibly sumptuous introduction to Japanese cuisine. Bookings are essential.
