Mixes From Mars are serious about cocktails. They’ve been bartending Singapore events for some time now, and have already set up a permanent outpost in the form of Mars Bar. They’ve now launched a fresh invasion, holing up in a former traffic cop shop along Maxwell Road, the Red Dot Traffic Building, to bring the eager masses their shake on classic and contemporary cocktails. We hardly need to propagandise on Hopscotch Bar’s behalf, but we will. Local goodies such as The Arab Street and Scissors, Pepper, Stone galvanise the taste buds, while given time and some serious backup you can hop through a dozen premium scotch whiskies or, indeed, hop to the tune of their craft beer selection.

Hopscotch Bar is a clear rival to the premier cocktail bars that litter Singapore’s skyline. Their unusual premises in Maxwell Road’s Red Dot Traffic building offer a challenge to the notion that quality cocktails are an exclusively posh proposition, and their down-to-earth sensibility and insistence on the alien end of paired flavours, infusions and tinctures are attitudes carefully attuned to Singapore street culture. Hopscotch Bar features – and makes noise about – regular guest bartenders that set the Hopscotch Bar ablaze (sometimes literally) for one night only.
