Where else in Singapore can you find a cosy glen of Scottish heritage than at Clarke Quay’s Highlander? This bar and restaurant along River Valley Road is packed with Scots curios – antler chandeliers, tartan, haggis, Scots music and photographs of that bonny land – that set the scene for a night of Scottish single malts and cocktails like the Highlander Fling or the Scotsmopolitan. The menu is rich, rustic, and robust, with dishes like the slow braised lamb shank, grilled cod, and sticky toffee pudding best attacked with a claymore. Plus, resident bands Verse 2 and Stereofly keep the place pumping until late.
Clarke Quay has its share of ethnic bars and restaurants, but the bustling River Valley Road location just got better with the addition of Highlander, a Scottish themed bar and restaurant that offers non-stop entertainment throughout the week and over the weekend. The music is supplied by two house bands, Verse 2 (playing earlier sets from 9pm Tuesdays through Sunday), and Stereofly, playing the party hours from midnight from Monday through Saturday. That’s almost enough to draw the crowds in, but it’s Highlanders beverages and bites that are the welcome accompaniment to Singapore’s busy nightlife.
Highlander’s menu changes regularly, but expect Scottish fare like pan-seared fresh scallops, steaming bowls of goodness from the soup kettle, prime Angus steaks sourced from the Scotland of the south, New Zealand, the lamb shank slow braised in Scottish Ale with mash and beans, or the Scottish salmon with potato gratin and hollandaise sauce. This River Valley Road, Clarke Quay haven also does an incredible line of Scottish cocktails, alongside a heady list of classics, homebrewed Highlander lager, Scottish ale, international wines, and over 300 whiskies. There’s even a rare Highlander Special Edition whisky, small-runs of only 50 bottles worldwide sourced from select distilleries. Currently it’s the Speyside Macallan 1986 19-year-old, bottled especially for Highlander’s hardy Singaporean clientele.
Unlike the CHIJMES outlet, this outlet only had a minimum menu. Also they didn't seem to have my reservation and we were first seated at a smaller table meant for drinks n bites. But the staff were nice & service was good.
Very nice bar and great music. I would recommend this to friends and family. They have a smoke machine too so it’s even better. I’ll be booking again soon
House beer was below expectation. Food was average. Employee dressed up with halloween costume which created exiting mood. There is house band singing pop music.
Was a nice place to eat and a great feeling
