About Geonbae

Geonbae is the equivalent of ‘cheers’ in Korean, and you can see why this Kananook Creek gem took this as a name. With an emphasis on communal, sociable and downright delicious eating, this is one of the top spots for a fun meal out with friends around Melbourne’s coastal southeastern extremities. The location right beside Frankston’s waterfront (oh yeah, and the amazing Korean BBQ food) makes it popular, so it’s unwise to turn up without an advance booking!

More about Geonbae, Frankston

Geonbae have given Frankston one of the most authentic Korean dining experiences to be found around Melbourne. Blessed with a beautiful location at WatersEdge on the sleepy banks of Kananook Creek, Geonbae makes for an idyllic spot to enjoy sunset views over Port Phillip Bay. However, romantic photo opportunities are not the main attraction here – authentic Korean BBQ is. Geonbae are open for lunch until late every day, though if you’re hoping lining up a meal with friends and family – the best way to enjoy this kind of food – it’s wise to make a booking ahead of time, because Geonbae is often packed out.

Gas grills are built into the tables and the focus at Kananook Creek’s Geonbae is undoubtedly on shared, sociable eating. That means traditional marinated beef galbi, bulgogi and juicy pork belly as satisfying as any you’ll find in Melbourne, as well as awesome kim bab, kimchi, and Korean mahn doo dumplings to stock the side plates, not to mention a host of delicious main dishes whipped up in the kitchen (the pa jeon pancakes and stuffed cucumber are particularly recommended). Geonbae’s mains are designed to be shared, but they offer plenty of tasty vegetarian, meaty and noodle single portions, too, so it’s great for a solo lunch just a short walk from Frankston foreshore!

A beautiful place to enjoy wonderful food and terrific service. One of my favourites, and would definitely recommend - having food barbecued at your table is always fun!
