Since its inception in 2013, Crab in Da Bag – this branch being fittingly-located inside Kallang’s Water Sports Centre – serves exactly what you’d expect: seafood smothered in homemade, lip-smacking sauces in little plastic bags, because eating with your hands is so sexy. This is food that finds the perfect and unusual balance between Louisi-American and Singaporean cooking, and it’s damn good. Crab in Da Bag is truly a unique Singapore seafood restaurant. First, as you know by now, the seafood is served in plastic bags and is covered in scrumptious sauces. Bold flavours and a casual dining style – you’re encouraged to use your hands to tear apart the food that’s usually placed in the middle of the table – mean your meal is guaranteed to excite every single one of your senses. As you dine, it’s also wise to wear a bib to keep your clothes clean and put your phone in the basket provided so as not get it messy with your oh so crabby fingers.

So what can you expect from the menu? If you opt for Da Bag, choose between live Boston lobster, live yabbies, live Sri Lankan crab, crayfish, tiger prawns, Boston Bay mussels and much, much else. You can then season, spice or sweeten your bag with an array of sauces ranging from the Ultimate Curry to the Salty Splash. Just know that whatever you choose, you’ll get a good old taste of Louisiana. Crab in Da Bag is also famous in Kallang for it’s caboodle boils – huge pots of all kinds of seafood that is drained from the boil and served ceremoniously for diners to share.
