... all the elegance, informality and buzz of a classic Parisian bistro”
– Good Food GuideAs one of two Côte Brasserie restaurants in Cardiff, this one on Mill Lane in the very centre of the city is doing its bit for French cuisine in Wales. And with a menu made up of both regional French specialities and traditional classics, let’s just say we’ll be very surprised if Wales doesn’t see a whole lot more of Côte Brasserie soon. There’s a reason – actually many reasons – why Côte is so well-loved up and down the UK, and that’s because it gets the simple aspects of restauranting bang on. In turn, this produces service and plates of food that make you smile.
Côte Brasserie in Cardiff Central is where people of the Welsh capital can enjoy continental tastes and plenty of French flair. It’s excellently located on Mill Lane – right amongst the shops, not far from a host of museums and the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena, not to mention Cardiff Central train station – making it a flawless choice for casual dining whatever time of day. It’s difficult to overstate the sense of satisfaction that dining at Côte will induce as typically French decor and hospitality pave the way for a menu laced with fresh ingredients and plenty of creativity.
Among a breakfast menu, a weekday lunch and an early evening menu, the a la carte options comprise a strong showing from classic French dishes prepared with passion. Chicken liver parfait? Check. Charcuterie boards? Check. Saucisson sec? Check. And all that is before you’ve even got to the mains. If a light fill is all you’re after, we’d recommend the spinach and mushroom crepes or the salmon fishcakes. Should you desire French food more substantial, try a classic beef bourguignon or pan-roasted haddock fillet wrapped in French bacon. Côte Brasserie at Cardiff Central is an essential part of a day spent in the heart of the capital. Reserve a table now!
Excellent service, quick and very efficient considering it was valentinea day. Food looked and tastes amazing. Definitely recommend to friends and family. Thank you for a lovey evening
Fantastic service and quality food! We really enjoyed our experience and will come back again for sure. We especially loved the sirloin steak! Cooked to perfection! Many thanks
Food and service was amazing, lovely late valentines date. We had three courses and some wine, lots of parking close by to and then a really short walk to the restaurant.
Fantastic service and constantly making sure that all of our need were catered for. Food was delicious and the service was just perfect to allow us time between courses
Both my husband and I enjoyed our meals. He had Cauliflower Soup, which he enjoyed but not as much as the French onion Soup he had last time. I had Savoie ham with remoulade which I thought was very tasty. His mains was a Steak Frites which he really enjoyed. I had what was one of the most superbly cooked pieces of hake I have ever had, accompanied by a very Mediterranean tasting chick pea stew. Only I had dessert, too full for a 'proper' desert I had strawberry Ice cream with lemon sorbet It was accompanied by a sort of 'tuile'.It that was really special. Next time I will order i scoop of ice cream with 2 biscuits/tuile!! All together a very enjoyable meal.
Although we had no criticism of the meals we ordered and the service was good, as it always is, we were annoyed to be told we had a table on the 1st floor area. I objected and observed that the ground floor was half empty and that we had made a booking early that day.The member of staff was visibly irritated and begrudgingly showed us to a table on the ground floor. He wasn't happy to be challenged and showed his disapproval. There is no atmosphere in an empty 'extra space', these areas only being ok for walk-ins when the restaurant is busy. It was a reminder of our family party for my husband's birthday in September 2015 that I had booked well in advance . We were led upstairs that night and seated at a table laid for 14 , we were a group of 8, in an otherwise empty area. So disappointing.
We have found the Côte chain of restaurants to offer exceptional value for money, especially if you eat from their lunch and early evening menu. The branch in Cardiff Central was fully up to our expectations. The building itself is interesting, in part of a row of historic city centre buildings, and the interior decor provides a suitable atmosphere for an enjoyable eating experience. As for the meal, we both enjoyed a high quality three course meal, with a glass of Normandy beer, for inside £40 (and that included a service charge added automatically, but fully deserved). We'll be back!
Booked a table for four in Cote in Cardiff Centre for my son's special birthday meal, we have dined there several times before. Unfortunately the food was very average on this occasion, not bad enough to complain but not as good as we are used to in the past. Two of us had the Beef Bourguignon and we had to add a lot of salt and pepper to give it some strong taste and it didn't have a lot of sauce, it was a bit dry. The restaurant appeared to have only one disabled toilet ( which had hand towels overflowing out of the bin onto the floor ) and for a restaurant of that size it seemed inadequate and not looked after. I don't remember it being like that in the past. The service was, however, very good and they were friendly staff,
What can I say about our first ever visit to Cote? Just that we enjoyed every minute of our time spent there. First of all, the staff were very accommodating as we arrived an hour earlier than expected but they were happy to let us dine early. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. I could not fault any of the staff we encountered...nothing was too much trouble and all food and drink served was with a smile, a chat and a little bit of polite banter. We will definitely visit Cote again.
We had lunch today at the Cote. I enjoyed a golden beetroot & goat cheese starter followed by chargrilled chicken breast on roasted vegetables. My friend ate mackerel rillettes on sourdough bread followed by Toulouse sausages served on puy lentlls. Both were delicious .the house wine was good as was the service and atmosphere. My only moan was that there was no carbohydrate with the lunch and I had to order fries on the side. I am a regular visitor to the Cote and am rarely disappointed . I will visit again soon.
