Chapas is the point at which China and tapas meet – see what they did there? – and while the traditional elements of the two cuisines may be metaphorical and physical miles apart, the food down in Mount Lawley manages to make it work. They bring a bit of both worlds to Perth, just a short dander from the Swan River where Beaufort Street and Walcott Street cross, with Spanish-style small plates to share and Chinese flavours everywhere. Book a table now and head on over to Chapas, a Barcelona-Beijing hybrid found in Perth. It has to be experienced to be believed.
Chapas is the central point between Spanish-style service and classic Chinese cooking, taking the iconic dishes of the many cuisines that constitute contemporary China and portioning them in sharing small plates and platters. Tapas dishes are all the rage, and so the logical step of using that serving method and applying it to Chinese cuisine isn’t that hard a jump to make, and at Chapas on Beaufort Street in Perth’s Mount Lawley district, they are making the very most of it. Let us give you a brief introduction to what you will discover when you arrive at their doorstep.
To begin, you will want to split a few small plates around between you and your mates. That could be their prawn toast, vegetarian spring rolls or deep-fried honey lemon chicken wings, or more idiosyncratic dishes such as “chinizza” – the penchant for punning doesn’t stop with the name at Chapas – a Chinese pizza with scallions and mozzarella. Follow it up with char siu barbecue pork, roast duck on the bone or salt & pepper lamb cutlets – or a platter of dim sum, steamed or fried – and wash it down something from the cocktail menu. Reserve a table at Beaufort Street in Mount Lawley for a quite unique dining experience in Perth.
Great food & excellent service, the staff are efficient & friendly. It's the perfect place to go before you head to a show at the Astor.
Great friendly service, delicious modern chinese tapas meals with a large variety of choice and a pleasant modern in- character setting ! Love the chicken baos and barbecue pork !

I had been to Chapas a few times and was happy to rate it highly and to declare it one of my favourite restaurants on Beaufort Streets. Hence, I booked a table for my birthday, excited to introduce my family to this restaurant I had been raving about. I was left disappointed by this most recent experience. Firstly, the gentleman who was on hosting duth that night (23rd of March) took his time to get to us already making us feel like we were going to be a burden on him. Our table had not been prepared although we had a booked a couple of days before our visit. The complimentary plate of delicious pickled vegetables was not offered as it had been in the past but was instead on the menu for $12. The menu itself was not longer what it used to be - the items on offer were not as exciting. The food, no longer party-in-the-mouth material! The only highlights really were the fried calamari and the bao buns who I think these guys have nailed! Oh did I forget to mention that we had to get up from our table many times to get napkins, plates or drinks?! Yes we did and really we shouldn’t have to but it seems that service standards have dropped alongside food quality and tastiness. I will not be running back to Chapas anytime soon unfortunately! Let’s hope these guys wake up from their nap soon!
We had a lovely evening at Chapas. The service was outstanding with the lady looking after our table being very helpful and friendly. The food and drinks were consistently delivered very quickly also. The meals were a decent size, including the "small" plates and we were left stuffed and unable to completely finish our meal (we ordered 4 small, 1 large and a side between 2 of us, as suggested by our wait person). My favourite dish was the bang bang chicken. Being able to use the Entertainment book was great as we got a discount off.
This was my second time dining at Chapas and I'm just as impressed as my first. Excellent service, amazing food and the decor of the restaurant is gorgeous! The menu can also be altered for anyone with coeliac disease or a gluten intolerance and they take special care to make sure it's safe. Highly recommend the crispy chilli beef and the dumpling platter. Definitely a place to dine at with a group of friends or family.
Great Food, Amazing Staff, Great Atmosphere! I have been here twice now and will definitely be back, the food here is absolutely amazing - every dish that was brought out is better then the last, also with the friendliest staff and the best looking restaurant in Mt Lawley, Chapas has made its way into my list of go-to's
I am a Coeliac with IBS so have to be extremely particular where I eat out. Chapas have taken the fear out of it! Food has always been good and they are very accommodating when it comes to specific dietary requirements, like no garlic no onion for example... Love it and will defs be back for sure!
Chapas offers an interesting array of Chinese and fusion tapas dishes - eg ratatouille dumplings! The food was good and the service very friendly. Our dishes all came out very quickly and at once and consequently we only stayed for about 40 min. Would recommend the kitchen spaces the dishes out (seeing as that is tapas style) - we would have bought more than just one drink and lingered if the food came out over a slightly longer period of time!
