The brainchild of young superstar chef Malcolm Lee, Candlenut has made waves reverberating well beyond Dempsey, Singapore and Asia – but Candlenut is a place you can still feel the pure passion, unornamented authenticity and desire to enjoy cooking and eating that started it all for Lee.
Candlenut celebrates the fusion of Asian flavours and techniques that is at the heart of Peranakan cuisine. As well as the traditional Chinese and Malay influences, Lee injects plenty of his own intuition to make some downright delicious creations – one favourite at Candlenut’s celebrated Outram Park restaurant was a classic Peranakan buah keluak dish, souped up with sous-vide Wagyu beef instead of traditional pork ribs. The menu changes frequently at Candlenut but whatever it is will probably be one of the most memorable meals you eat in Singapore. The new Candlenut restaurant at COMO Dempsey has an expanded seating capacity of 92, including an eight-seat private room perfect for intimate dinners or casual business lunches, as well as an al fresco dining area. Lovely restaurant with great food and good value for money. There is enough creativity to the dishes but comfort and nourishing dinner. Portions are a good size and the ambience is nice.
Wonderful dinner. Good food and friendly staff. Went for the tasting menu, and while almost everything was good, a couple of items were amazing! These included a fried shrimp with banana chilies.
staff were friendly and helpful, food was fabulous and worth the time and effort. Highly recommended and do go for their lunch timings if you know what you want to eat there!
Restaurant offers only set dinner at $50++ pp. Set comprises a good mix of appetizers, mains and a dessert. Good food and service. Items in set are changed once every two weeks.
Overall we had a good dinner. Great food, nice space, waiter taking our orders was helpful. But guys bringing food had no idea and kept on mixing up orders with table next to us. Simple thing to fix.
Food was awesome as always. Really nice Peranakan décor too. A pity they are moving to Dempsey though. It would make it a bit more difficult to dine here more regularly.
impeccable service and excellent food. had a surprise birthday request and they were very responsive to my request. would definitely come back again to try the other stuff on the menu.
The venue is amidst greenery, not too difficult to access. Ambience of the restaurant is nice with apt deco to complement the food! Food is of good quality with autentic taste.
Authentic Peranakan cuisine in a fuss free and cozy environment. Love the ju hu char served in pie tee cups and the zesty wing bean salad. Portions are a little small for the prices they charge though.
great ambience and decor, fast service, food portion was small but very good. you may need to order more if you are more people. buah keluak ice cream was quite innovative. must try blue swimmer, babi pongteh
