Great food, great ambiance, great service and overall a super location to be at. Away from the hustle and bustle of the CBD, just off Chinatown
One of the best places to have peranakan food in Singapore. Refined presentation of textures and flavours, inspired but still traditional. Desserts are pretty special too, the Texture of Coconut and Buah Keluak Ice Cream stood out.
A very busy seating, we had difficulty getting the attention of our server. He forgot to serve rice. We waited a long while for the ordering of wine. And a long wait for deserts. Service level has declined since our last visit a month ago. Food standard is still great!
generally good food and service! enjoyed ourselves. . . .
Yummy, unique, fairly decently priced food. Will definitely return - with others!
Delicious food, nice staff. Great place to bring visitors that are looking for "not the usual" Singaporean cuisine.
Generally a place with good food. Every dish satisfied the palate. Ambience was good. It was a place that was accessible by MRT train. The nearest train station is Outram Park MRT station. It helps to make reservation as seats are limited.
The ambience for the place was nice and pleasant, even though all tables were taken. Good vibe. Even better food and a gem of a place to go to if you're craving Peranakan food. Do try the desserts, they were delicious and a real treat.
Friendly and attentive staff. Great food! Will definitely return again!
Reservation was fast with Quandoo & restaurant followed up with a text message of acknowledgement; food was good, one of my preferred place for a Peranakan fix.
Favourite restaurant that has never disappoint me. It is one of the best Peranakan in Singapore. Yummy!
the crispy pork belly and winged and winged bean salad is a must try. Simply fabulous! Quality of food is good, servers informative and attentive.
Candlenut is ideal if you want solid peranakan food in a nice environment. The wagyu beef buah keluah and the chicken curry were very good as was the ngor hiang which we tried.
Was great food and as we had just had a long flight the speedy service was fabulous. Thanks to all the team for making our first night in Singapore special.
An amazing insight to a cuisine we don't usually get to eat. Yum!
Authentic Peranakan cuisine in a fuss free and cozy environment. Love the ju hu char served in pie tee cups and the zesty wing bean salad. Portions are a little small for the prices they charge though.
Excellent food which while not have been traditional peranakan food, was still tasty and retained enough of old school flavour. price may be a little higher (S$160 for 4 people) but worth it. must tries are the crab curry and buah keluah ice cream! the size of the menu is not large, so try everything!
Food was pretty good and service was prompt and attentive. The desserts were pretty outstanding. The coconut and chendol desserts were my favourite. The buah keluak ice cream was unique but a bit too avant garde for the palate of my family.
Great food, casual atmosphere making it a great place to relax and chat with friends. However, the portions can be rather small, so remember to order more dishes to share. The durian soup is the BOMB!
Nice and quiet environment Good service and great food Will come again if will visit Singapore again
Had the Ngoh Hiang, Babi Pongteh, Beef Rendang, Sambal Kang Kong, Omelette Cincalok and Assam Fish. Nice modern take on Peranakan Cuisine. Well done, nicely presented. Will be back.
Food was good. However, serving was small for the dishes so may want to order more for sharing. The rice was free flow though. And staff were generally attentive.
超级好次!让我对娘惹菜也改观了~
Service was prompt, food was traditional with a twist. For some of the chicken dishes, would have preferred that the flavours be more infused and appear less separated (i.e. meat + gravy put together).
disappointed that asam fish is fishy..and different ingredients taste like they are just boiled and put together last min. the ayam cooked with black nuts is blant and monotonous.. its really just so so. two person..3 dishes.for 56
great food and interesting take on peranakan food. Love anything Buah Keluak, esp the beef ribs and the dessert. The gula melaka prawn was awesome too, making us having second serving of rice to mop up the gravy.
Good selection on the menu. Service was decent and food quality was good. The desserts were interesting - only tried the Chendol and that was yummy!
Delicious food and great service. Thanks for an enjoyable dinner. Easily the best peranakan restaurant in Singapore. Prices are reasonable after the discount from the entertainer app
Incredibly crap food. Please dont even try it. Not worth it at all. Had the chicken in black nut sauce and it tasted like puke. Horrible. Not even the rice was good.
Nice staff, friendly atmosphere. We ordered according the waitress's suggestion, all 4 dishes are delicious. The sauce of Buah Leluak Wagyu and Assam Sotong are delicious, highly recommended. I also like to Durian Soup for dessert.
Service was great and the servers were attentive. They give good recommendations on what is good here. Love the Kuah beluak ice cream. Average check $50 per person.
Ambience and service c'est excellent! The buah keluak beef and ice cream are to die for. I'd never knew that the combination of buah keluak and salted caramel with ice cream can be so powerful, and, oh-so-heavenly! I'd strongly recommend the sambal petai if you like it potent and spicy. It is as authentic as it gets.
A wonderful gastronomic evening created by a very talented young chef. Ling our waitress enthusiastically took us through the menu which for a fan of Asian food brought a whole basket of new treasures. The wing bean salad was mouth watering and perfectly offset the richness of the Chicken Buah Keluak, the signature dish. The Buah Keluak ice cream on salted caramel then took things to an even higher level. For inspired Peranakan cooking, this is an absolute must.
Service and ambience was good - food was a little lacking as I've heard a lot of good reviews about this place. It could be due to the dishes I ordered.
Pork belly was fantastic. Curry chicken was also very delicious.
I booked this restaurant using Quandoo and it was so easy to use! The food at Candlenut was very delicious and you must try the beef rendang!
Service staff could be better and more prompt but otherwise pleasant. Waiting time was accepted given that the restaurant was almost at full capacity. Ordered 4 dishes: Buah Keluak Chicken could have been more flavourful. The Asam fish was middling and could have been afforded more spiciness and sourness. Would not order again. Candlenut Chicken satay was the highlight of the meal. The chicken was nicely marinated and well grilled. Satay sauce was good and the pineapple sauce gave it a nice kick. Buah Keluak Ice Cream could only be described as a strange experience. It's something that one needs to try to know how it tastes like but not something that I would want to eat again. Order just 1 to share since the ice cream feels a bit on the heavy side, despite the small serving. Would visit to try other dishes again.
A delicious and innovative take on traditional Peranakan food that will satiated yet leave one craving for what new tastes can be explored. Serving are smallish which allows one to try more of what Candlenut has to offer on their menu. I recommend the Buah keluak Beef ribs, spicy sambal petai, crispy pork belly and don't forget to ask what specials they have available. finish off the meal with an amazing Buah Keluak ice-cream. Beware! You will often end up eating more than you set out to have!
The food was very very nice and the service was good. We would definitely recommend it and I am sure to go back if we are in Singapore again. Bassiano & Aya
If you are interested in peranakan culture, you can try to have classic peranakan food. New place at Dempsey hill is better condition and fancy interior. Small dishes is not enough so you add various kinds of foods. It is not bad for me. :-)
