More about the restaurant: Mariko's

Cocktails infused with Japanese flavours and tapas-sized bites are the name of the game at Mariko’s, a bar and restaurant down Jiak Chuan Road that is itself named after a character created by Japanese gekiga comix pioneer Yoshihiro Tatsumi. Mariko’s is effortlessly chic and moodily lit, paying tribute to this infamous part of Tanjong Pagar that was once a thriving red-light district in old Singapore. Cosy alcoves area arrayed around the main bar room, flanked by a perfectly-curated bar, and pages from Tatsumi’s own manga.

The food at Tanjong Pagar’s Mariko’s is simple – tapas-sized nibbles that pair perfectly with the real stars of the show, the cocktails. Get yourself a cold cut platter with and start dreaming of some of Singapore’s finest Japanese-inflected concoctions while you prop yourself up at the bar here down Jiak Chuan Road.

The drinks menu at Mariko’s Tanjong Pagar hideaway represents one of the more innovative selections of cocktails in Singapore. The trick to their difference is their distinctive Japanese twist. Concoctions like the Yamazaki Old Fashioned use Yamazaki Distiller’s Reserve whisky and a homemade jasmine tea syrup, Mariko’s Mojito takes the classic and uses an infusion of organic tea and berries, while the Kaku Highball once again uses premium Japanese whisky, this time the Suntory Kakubin distillation. Of course, hop heads can grab an Asahi, and the straight-up spirits selection is at once international and a fantastic library of domestic Japanese liquors.
